Soviet and Chinese diplomats and students step up contacts
Chinese Foreign Minister Wu Xueqian will meet with Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko in New York later this month, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
The meeting will take place when Mr. Wu heads China's delegation to the 39th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to convene Sept. 18.
It was announced last week that China would send 70 students to the Soviet Union for one year of study, seven times the number last year. The Soviet Union is reciprocating by sending an equal number of students to China.
