Voters tuned out, but not turned off
Many potential voters have not been tuning in to the Republican extravaganza in Dallas, an informal sampling across the country by Monitor correspondents shows.
About half of those interviewed who had watched the GOP convention on television said they were mostly bored, but that does not describe the general reaction to the top of the party's presidential ticket. President Reagan was getting good reviews even while sitting in a hotel room watching his wife at the convention podium.
Monitor reporters found that even people who watched little or not at all usually had definite opinions about the parties, the platforms, and the candidates.
