A Gromyko-Reagan meeting sought by State Department

The State Department is trying to set up a meeting next month between President Reagan and Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko, but so far the Kremlin appears to be uninterested, according to an administration official. The meeting would be held in New York, where Mr. Reagan and Mr. Gromyko are expected to make speeches at the UN General Assembly session.

Gromyko, a veteran diplomat, may be the dominant voice in the Kremlin on foreign policy, including relations with the United States.
