Jackson carries his peace campaign to El Salvador
US Democratic presidential candidate Jesse Jackson carried his Central American peace campaign to El Salvador on Monday with what he called a message of hope - that guerrillas fighting the US-backed government were willing to discuss a cease-fire.
The Rev. Mr. Jackson talked for several hours Sunday with representatives of the Faribundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) and the Revolutionary Democratic Front (FDR). After the meetings, Jackson said both groups were willing to meet Salvadorean President Jose Napoleon Duarte in San Salvador immediately.
