Israel bombs targets in eastern Lebanon

Three Israeli aircraft bombed targets in Syrian-held eastern Lebanon, the Voice of Lebanon said Sunday. The targets reportedly included Soviet-built, antiaircraft missiles near the Syrian border. It was the first Israeli strike in Lebanon since April 7.

An Israeli military spokesman in Tel Aviv said the aircraft hit a guerrilla base used by Iranian-backed fighters as a training center and exit point for attacks against Israeli troops in Lebanon.

The attacks were targeted near Janta, about 2 1/2 miles from Syria. The Voice of Lebanon said there were a number of casualties in Sunday's raid, naming one man who died and another who was injured.
