Philippine opposition sees Assembly inroads

A previously powerless opposition defeated President Ferdinand E. Marcos's candidates in several races in Manila and other areas, but Mr. Marcos continued to predict he would retain a majority in the National Assembly.

Vicente Santiago, chairman of the election commission, said it would take up to 10 days for the commission to get all the results in.

The government news agency said Marcos candidates were leading in 100 of the 183 races for National Assembly seats, while an independent watchdog group said thht opposition candidates were winning in 87 races, pro-Marcos candidates in 81 , and that no results available in the contests for the other 15 seats.
