Arafat urged to effect end to West Bank occupation

A delegation of Palestinian West Bank leaders came to Amman Tuesday with a message for Yasser Arafat. The members urged the Palestinian leader, who is in Jordan for talks with King Hussein, to reach an agreement that would end the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Monitor contributor Christian Bestan writes. Bethlehem Mayor Elias Freij led the delegation, which carried a petition signed by nearly 80 West Bank notables.

The Arafat-Hussein talks center on whether the King should represent the Palestinians in possible talks with Israel over the future of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
