India and Pakistan plan to renew friendship talks

India and Pakistan are ready to resume talks on a draft nonaggression pact and a treaty of friendship and cooperation, India's foreign secretary, Maharajkumar Rasgotra, said Tuesday.

The Press Trust of India news agency quoted Mr. Rasgotra as saying talks may be held in Islamabad in April or May.

The last negotiations were held in December 1982. Relations between the two countries plunged last year,with each accusing the other of meddling in its internal affairs.
