Uruguyan marchers seek political amnesty for 900
About 4,000 demonstrators marched through the Uruguayan capital Monday night, demanding that the 10-year-old military government grant an amnesty for political prisoners said by human rights groups to number about 900.
The demonstrators, mostly youths, rallied in front of the Montevideo mayor's office in the center of the city and marched down the main avenue before dispersing peacefully as riot police stood by, witnesses said.
