French truck drivers end protests, await talks

Truck drivers were on the move again Friday after backing down from a blockade that immobilized France's road network, disrupted food supplies and industry, and spread to other countries.

The protest collapsed with surprising speed after Finance Minister Jacques Delors promised to treat the sector as ''a priority.'' But Mr. Delors did not give in on the main demands of the truckers: more flexible workings hours and no tax on fuel. He said only that negotiations would be held next Thursday - as originally planned.
