Envoy Stone may visit Nicaragua early next year
US special envoy Richard Stone will return to Central America early next year , possibly for talks with Nicaraguan officials, an administration official said Thursday. The trip would test the sincerity of recent conciliatory gestures by the Sandinistas.
Meanwhile in Nicaragua, American-born Bishop Salvador Schlaefer was killed Wednesday by right-wing rebels who abducted him in eastern Nicaragua, the government said. Bishop Schlaefer was abducted along with a second American priest and two Miskito Indian lay churchmen.
