USS New Jersey responds to new attack on marines

The battleship USS New Jersey opened fire at Druze Muslim positions Thursday in response to attacks on the US marines at Beirut airport. Meanwhile, two more French soldiers of the multinational peacekeeping force were killed in separate actions, and US marines, fearing a possible suicide bomb attack, opened fired on a taxi that tried to drive a two-man American television crew into their compound through the wrong entrance. An employee of WITN-TV in Washington, N.C., was injured, as was his Lebanese driver.
