Thousands in Manila call for Marcos resignation

Thousands of demonstrators Sunday turned out at a rally to mark the 51st birthday of assassinated Philippines' oppositon leader Benigno Aquino and demand the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos.

The rally was the latest of an unprecedented three months of anti-Marcos protests since Aquino's assassination at Manila airport Aug. 21. Hundreds of yellow balloons bearing Aquino's picture were released, and thousands of runners in yellow jogging suits took part in a ''Run for Aquino and resignation.'' Speeches were delivered by members of Aquino's family, including his widow Corazon, and opposition politicians.

Also on the speakers' platform was the mother of Rolando Galman, Aquino's alleged assassin. The only incident was the arrest of a man with a knife near the speakers'.
