Kissinger doubts Viet-type role in Central America

Henry Kissinger said he does not believe a Vietnam-style commitment of US forces will be necessary in Central America. In a television interview, Dr. Kissinger also rejected suggestions the rapidly developing US involvement in the region - including naval maneuvers and the disptach of up to 4,000 Americans to Honduras for exercises - means his policy commission's report on Central America, expected in about six months, will come too late to make a difference.

After meeting with President Reagan Monday, Dr. Kissinger said his commission may need until Feb. 1 to make policy recommendations instead of Dec. 1, the deadline set by Reagan. Kissinger also said he may soon visit Central America.
