Rebels intensify attacks in Capital of Afghanistan

Muslim rebels having hit targets in Kabul, including the headquarters of Soviet forces in Afghanistan, diplomats here reported Tuesday. They were the most intense attacks on the capital in two years.

The night strikes last week were launched shortly before UN-sponsored talks on Afghanistan began in Geneva. They seemd aimed at backing insurgent demands to be included in the discussions, diplomats said.
