Earth's oldest minerals found in Australia

Australian scientists discovered mineral grains that are 400 million years older than any rocks now known. Scientists at Australian National University said grains of the mineral zircon were discovered last month in western Australia and dated to within 300 million years of when the Earth itself is believed to have formed. The scientists' leader said the zircon grains may have formed part of the Earth's original upper crust.
