Pentagon is said to have a new unit for spying

The Pentagon has created a new intelligence unit for covert operations, congressional sources said. The unit, called the Army Intelligence Support Activity, augments the role of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency, the sources said. The Pentagon had no comment and the congressional sources gave no details of the new unit's activities, but the New York Times said it was operating missions against Salvadorean leftist forces and supporting antigovernment forces in Nicaragua.
