Spain's Socialist premier backs US missile plan

Spain's Socialist prime minister said he supported the deployment of new US nuclear missiles in Western Europe if US-Soviet disarmament talks failed. Felipe Gonzalez, after talks here with Chancellor Helmut Kohl, said he hoped disarmament talks in Geneva would be successful - but if not the NATO decision to deploy cruise and Pershing II missiles should come into effect.
