Europe and US missiles. . . . US arms negotiator Paul H. Nitze won't say yes or no. But some reports are that he's worried that West Europeans will not stick with the allied decision to deploy new American missiles there.

But some officials indicate that he is indeed concerned. And that may be one reason why Nitze has pushed so hard for an agreement with the Soviets aimed at limiting intermediate-range nuclear missiles.

In Nitze's view, the European opposition to the planned American missile deployment is strong and may grow even stronger.
