Opposition leaders call for resignation of Gandhi

Opposition leaders called for the resignation of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi , saying her party's election losses in two key states showed she had lost the trust of the nation.

Meanwhile, film star N. T. Rama Rao prepared to take over power as chief minister in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The state's main city, Hyderabad, was reported quiet following clashes between Hindus and Muslims. Eleven people have died in violence in Hyderabad since assembly elections Jan. 5 .
