Some lawmakers file the strangest bills!

In Massachusetts, where politics almost overshadows the Red Sox or Celtics, the deadline just passed for filing bills to be considered during the next legislative session. Among the more arcane: One would declare Roxbury pudding stone (Don't ask us how it got that name!) the state rock; another would establish a state karate commission; and one would put the state on record as protecting the mourning dove.

Slightly more than 8,000 proposals will greet state senators and representatives when they return to Beacon Hill in January.m
