Iraq says it destroyed 5 tankers near Kharg Island
Beirut — Iraq said its planes destroyed five oil tankers in the Gulf near Iran's main oil terminal of Kharg Island Saturday night.
An Iraqi news report did not identify the ships. The reported attack is the latest in a series Iraq says it has made on shipping since it declared a naval exclusion zone at the head of the Gulf on Aug. 12.
Iran said Saturday its forces shot down five Iraqi fighter planes in less than 20 minutes, but Iraq denied the report.
