Ottawa confronts Shultz over US economic policy
Ottawa — US Secretary of State George Shultz is giving Canadian officials an opportunity to vent their frustration over US economic policies they view as protectionist and damaging to Canadian interests.
State Department officials said Mr. Shultz, who arrived here Sunday for a two-day official visit, wanted to demonstrate to Ottawa a political will to resolve serious differences between the United States and its major trading partner. US interests own almost half of Canadian industry. No written agreements were expected to come from the meeting, the officials said.
