Uh, Mr. President, about that campaign swing to California. . . .

For more than 15 years, Reagan's endorsement was a big plus to almost any GOP candidate in California. He's endorsed San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson in the Senate race against Democratic Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. He's backed George Deukmejian in his bid to defeat Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley for governor. But Reagan has evidently decided not to stump the Golden State. The reason? GOP strategists aren't sure that Reagan, and particularly Reaganomics, will benefit either Republican hopeful.

Also if Wilson and/or Deukmejian lose, the President definitely doesn't want any of the blame.
