Mexican business groups back off on protest plan

Business groups withdrew their call for firms in Monterrey, Mexico's second largest financial center, to stage a one-day closure Wednesday to protest the government's takeover of private domestic banks.

The central bank, meanwhile, ordered the newly nationalized banks and other lending institutions to stop selling gold, silver, and dollars until it issued a new directive.
