A recent study by the American Society of Newspaper Editors shows that 60 percent of American daily newspapers have never had any minority employees in their newsrooms.

Further, in the past five years, minority employment on those newspapers that do have some minority members has declined every year, from 12.5 percent in 1978 -79 to 3.8 percent in 1981-82.
