Daedalus

Before I fling my son into the sea Before the waves have drawn him from the shore And tumbled him across the rocks and sand, I want one moment when my voice will be The voice they hear, the people on the strand, And after that I'll ask the voice no more. What some can touch by gesture or by smile Or some quick answer lightly blown away, I want the wind to hold so they can hear So they will know that knowing is a mile From ocean - though wet with ocean spray, Before I weep and bring the waves more near. For Icarus who melted in the sun, While I flew firm, is the immortal one.
