The Equal Rights Amendment could liberate men as well as women, the author argues persuasively here. It is hard to understand why two-thirds of the book is made up of the author's previously published and now outdated law-journal articles. Yet, at its best, this book lucidly explains how the courts have gradually struck down sex-based benign discrimination, what remains to be done, and why the women's movement is in part to blame for the failure of ERA.
