US, South Korea plan big military exercise
| Seoul
The United States and South Korea announced a 10-week joint military exercise in South Korea, the largest ever in the noncommunist world.
A total of 100,000 Korean servicemen and 57,500 US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine troops will participate in the $50 million ''Team Spirit 82,'' beginning Feb. 13.
A US spokesman said the maneuver would evaluate ways to defend South Korea from aggression. He said none of the exercises would be conducted close enough to the demilitarized zone dividing the Korean Peninsula to cause any complications with the communist North.
