Special Assembly session on Golan expected today

The Security Council is expected today (Jan. 29) to hold an emergency special session of the General Assembly about Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights.

The United States, which vetoed a punitive resolution in the Council last week, abstained on Thursday's decision to call the session, as did Britain.

There is no power of veto in the 157-member Assembly.
