Percy talks in secret with 3 Palestinian leaders
Jerusalem — Sen. Charles H. Percy (R) of Illinois said he met secretly with three Palestinian leaders during his visit to Israel. The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said he had met the three leaders secretly because a solution to the Palestinian problem is the only way to attain a lasting Middle East peace.
The US maintains that the Palestine Liberation Organization cannot be included in the peace process until it recognizes Israel's right to exist.
Senator Percy said he assured Israeli leaders of the US commitment to Israeli security and to the Camp David accords.
