Snowstorm strands 3,000 on island off Cape Cod

An intense ocean storm dumped up to 18 inches of snow on New England Sunday, stranding some 3,000 people on Nantucket Island, off the coast of Cape Cod. They had traveled to the resort island for an annual Christmas festival, but high winds and heavy seas forced cancellation of the only ferryboat to the mainland.
