Mansfield says Alaskan oil to Japan offers 2-way aid

Mike Mansfield has an idea on how to reduce the trade imbalance between the United State and Japan, and help the Japanese quench their oil thirst. The US ambassador to Japan says the US should sell Japan surplus Alaskan oil to help reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Congress would have to approve any shipments of Alaskan oil to Japan, and there may be strong opposition to selling US oil when the United States is depending on oil imports, he said.
