Monitor's expanded business coverage

Beginning today, the Monitor will devote more space to business news. About two extra pages will be added each week to the present single page per day. The increased coverage reflects the growing importance of business news -- and the growing interest of readers in such news. At the same time, the name of the page will be changed from "Financial" to the more comprehensive term, "Business."

These changes will be accompanied by a new approach to business reporting. Emphasis will now be placed on coverage through signed columns by Monitor authorities who will focus on areas of their expertise -- Wall Street, Washington, international finance, and the corporate world.

"Business Scene," a new column by David T. Cook, appears today. Cook has rejoined the Monitor after a spell with Business Week. His column will deal with corporations.

Also appearing today is "economic Scene," by David R. Francis, the Monitor's business editor. Francis delves mostly into national and international economic topics.

New York correspondent Ron Scherer will continue with his "Wall Street Scene, " and also write columns about energy, real estate, and other topics of pocketbook interest. Then later this fall, correspondent Peter Grier will launch a column from his base in Washington.
