Soviets detonate powerful nuclear device in Siberia

The seismological institute here recorded a Soviet underground nuclear explosion Sunday in western Siberia, an institute spokesman reported. The explosion was the strongest recorded this year, measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale. The Dutch meteorological office also recorded the test, measuring it at 6.0 on the Richter scale.
