Fire started on Berlin wall to protest foiled escape

West Berliners started a fire on the Berlin wall's "Death Strip" after East German guards foiled an attempt to escape to the West, police said. Protesters chanted "murderers" and threw stones over the wall after seeing guards fire at a man attempting to cross the wall and drag him away apparently uninjured.
