Castro in Mexico to talk of summit he won't be at

Cuban leader Fidel Castro will meet Mexican President Jose Lopez Portillo today (Aug. 7), mainly to discuss the "North-South" summit meeting scheduled for October, a conference he will not be attending, informed sources said.

A Mexican Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed that President Castro, whose country has close relations with Mexico, would brief Mr. Lopez Portillo on his views on economic cooperation between rich and poor countries, the subject of the 22-nation summit. As a leader of the nonaligned movement, Castro argued that he was entitled to a place at the October summit, but despite extensive diplomatic efforts he failed to obtain an i nvitation.
