In short (3)

It may be news to US officials who have rung the alarm bells over the revolutionary left in El Salvador, but it won't be to those Europeans and Latin Americans who have been laying more weight on the right-wing danger there all along. We refer to the report that President Duarte of the ruling junta has said the greatest threat to El Salvador's government comes not from the left but from conservative businessmen such as those who attack it from places like Miami and Guatemala City.

This does not mean that brutal excesses on the extreme left suddenly become acceptable, any more than those attributed to right-wing marauders. It does mean that more than one perspective is usually necessary in situations as tr agically mixed up as El Salvador.
