US lays plans to improve airfield, port in Egypt

The United States plans to spend $106 million upgrading the Egyptian airfield and port at ras Banas next year, based on nothing more official than a handshake , US officials said. They said the Reagan administration, like its predecessor, hoped to use the strategic Red Sea base to support possibly large-scale American military moves in the event of an emer gency in the Gulf or Mideast.
