Iranians say Iraqi toll sizable in raid at front
| Susangerd, Iran
Iranian Revolutionary Guards said they had knocked out 30 tanks and killed 100 Iraqis in a major raid on Iraqi lines west of this devastated town on the Gulf war front. The guards, their explanations punctuated by the thud of artillery shells crashing into the town, said a 100-strong force attacked Iraqi lines Tuesday night. They said the most advanced Iraqi positions were only about one mile from the center of Susangerd.
The Revolutionary Guards lost 13 men in the 48-hour operation, which was supported by artillery from regular army units outside Susangerd.
