About 11,000 Zimbabwean families have been given ownership of their rented homes as a Christmas present of Prime Minister Robert Mugabe. Eddison Zvobgo, minister of local government and housing, has outlined a plan under which families renting municipally owned homes for 30 years or more would become their owners. Families who have rented municipal housing for less than 30 years are to be allowed to buy the properties for low sums, he added.
