Tehran lists Iraqi losses in fighting along border

Iranian forces shot down an Iraqi fighter plane and a helicopter, destroyed many tanks, and killed "large numbers" of Iraqi troops in new fighting along the border with Iraq, Tehran Radio reported. An Iranian warplane was also reported lost. The radio said the exchange was started by a heavy artillery barrage from Iraqi forces deployed along the embattled border.

The two countries have fought several battles along the frontier in recent weeks. Iraqi diplomats have been expelled from Tehran as have Iranian envoys from Baghdad.
