Trusting God, really

When we are afraid or depressed, it is because we are not trusting God. Because we lack confidence in Him we accept the suggestion that there are present influences other than God to control us and produce bad results. But if we do trust God, He supplies everything we need for our well-being. As the Psalmist says, "The Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him." n1

n1 Psalms 37:40.

But how do we come to trust God in today's world?

The prelude to trusting God is knowing God. This includes firts gaining the conviction that God is;m that He is the one Supreme Being, all-powerful and omnipresent Truth, Love, Mind. He created all and made it good, and He governs all in harmony. He has made man in His image, so man is spiritual, perfect, and fully under God's care. We continue to acknowledge these facts until they become clear in our consciousness. Then we find that we can trust God naturally , and our trust bears the fruits of peace and progress.

Gaining, a higher understanding of Mind enables us to put aside false trusts that would tempt us to rely on what cannot satisfy our demands. For instance, chance cannot actually meet our needs. Hoping to "hit it rich" is never fully rewarding because it leads us away from God, Principle, the ultimate and only source of substance.

There may be subtle arguments that astrology and good luck charms are ways of getting what we want. But here, too, the result is always less than satisfying.

Trusting the opinion of others can lead us into a trap also. No matter how well- meaning advice is, it can never transcend unerring Mind. Putting God first, we place ourselves in line with true wisdom.

Mary Baker Eddy n2 admonishes her followers, "Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts." n3 As we do this, acknowledging God's omnipotence and ever-presence, we discern that can cut us off from good.

Trust in Deity may not be gained easily, but the best start is to turn to God and strive to see more of His allness. When we do this -- and sometimes it takes persistence -- we finally begin to feel His presence. Then we are ready to trust Him.

Christ Jesus, because he realized that God is omnipotent, relied on God more than anyone else who ever lived. He knew God's control of all, so it was natural for him to trust his Father's care. His ministry, including all his healing works, confirmed this trust. If our goal is to emulate Jesus -- and what goal is better for us? -- we need to trust God as he did.

How we all need a higher, more well- founded reliance on God! It is achievable now. And with it come blessings. DAILY BIBLE VERSE Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever. Isaiah 26:3, 4 m
