3,000 addicts rounded up in Iran for care or prison
| Tehran, Iran
Revolutionary guards and Islamic militants have rounded up more than 3,000 drug addicts and detained them at Tehran's main race track, the Kayhan newspaper reported Tuesday. A spokesman for the extremist Fedayeen Islam guerrilla organization said addicts who did not have a bad record would be rehabilitated and the others sent to prison. Official estimates say more than 2 million Iranians are addicts. Last week 34 drug traffickers faced firing squads.
