3,000 addicts rounded up in Iran for care or prison

Revolutionary guards and Islamic militants have rounded up more than 3,000 drug addicts and detained them at Tehran's main race track, the Kayhan newspaper reported Tuesday. A spokesman for the extremist Fedayeen Islam guerrilla organization said addicts who did not have a bad record would be rehabilitated and the others sent to prison. Official estimates say more than 2 million Iranians are addicts. Last week 34 drug traffickers faced firing squads.
