US and Iran agree on indirect contact

The United states and Iran Thursday agreed to allow third countries to represent their diplomatic and consular interests in the other's capital, the State Department announced.Under the arrangement, Algeria will represent Iran in the United States and Switzerland will protect US interests in Iran. President Carter broke diplomatic relations with Iran on April 7 over the continued detention of 50 Americans at the US Embassy in Teheran.
