Britain and Spain agree to restore Gibraltar link

Britain and Spain issued a joint declaration Thursday saying they had agreed to restoring direct communications between Gibraltar and the Spanish mainland, cut off by Madrid in 1969. The agreement came as a breakthrough in the longstanding dispute over the Rock, strategically situated at the entrance to the Mediterranean. It was captured by the British in 1704.
