Daring escape in Bogota, but 30 are still hostages

The Ururguayan ambassador to Colombia jumped from the second floor of the Dominican Republic Embassy in Bogota Monday in a daring escape from leftist guerrillas holding about 30 hostages, a military spokesman said. After the escape of Ambassador Fernando Gomez Fyns, the M -- 19 guerrillas still held 11 ambassadors, 2 charges d'affaires and at least 17 other people as bargaining counters for their negotiations with the Colombian government.

The ambassador was taken to a military hospital and military sources said he apparently had broken an arm. This could not be confirmed immediately.
