Proxmire calls for inquiry on possible Miller perjury

Did Treasury Secretary G. William Miller commit perjury when he denied in Senate testimony any knowledge of foreign bribes paid by the giant Textron Corporation, which Mr. Miller headed before joining the government?

Sen. William Proxmire (D) of Wisconsin, speaking Sunday on "Face the Nation" (CBS-TV), called for appointment of a special prosecutor to find out. Describing Mr. Miller as a man with a "lifetime record of honesty and decency," Senator Proxmire said that, nonetheless, too many questions had been left unanswered by Mr. Miller's testimony and subsequent disclosures of Textron bribes.
