Spain would get solid OK in NATO bid, Luns says

Joseph M. A. H. Luns, secretary-general of the NATO, says he believes Spain could gain the unanimous consent of member nations in a bid to join the organization, the Spanish national news agency EFE reported Wednesday. He said no pressure was being put on Spain to join and that its application to become a member of the European Community was entirely unconnected.

Spain's two main opposition parties to the centrist government, the Socialists and Communists, oppose the nation's entry into NATO.
