Get control of your life
A young man had graduated from university ad spent two years in business. But he was frustrated. He lacked opportunity. Eventually he became so afraid about his work that he thought he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Finally he turned to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, or consecrated and specific prayer. She reminded him that God, the one divine Mind , is also perfect Love, expressing intelligence and happiness in man, His image. From this basis he saw that opportunity to express God is always present, and that this was the highest employment he could have. He also recognized that it was the belief in a controlling intelligence and power other than the one Mind that was seeming to condemn and limit him Mind could never condemn or limit His offspring, His immortal likeness.
The man was acquainted with the writings of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, and knew that in one of her books she gives a warning that can be taken to heart both by those in her church and those outside it. She writes, "Christian Scientists cannot watch too sedulously, or bar their doors too closely, or pray to God too fervently, for deliverance from the claims of evil. Thus doing, Scientists will silence evil suggestions, uncover their methods, and stop their hidden influence upon the lives of mortals." n1

As he thought about this, the man stopped condemning himself. He saw clearly that self-condemnation was destructive. And he saw that his mental and physical suffering were in fact the suffering of a counterfeit mind, not of his real selfhood in God. He was and always would be the immortal expression of divine Life, and he determined to live his true nature.
He was helped by the following sentence in Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:m "Human mind produces what is termed organic disease as certainly as it produces hysteria, and it must relinquish all its errors, sicknesses, and sins." n2 He decided to trust God's divine Mind's, healing power and absolute control.

The young man saw that purity, intelligence, and strength are inherent in man's identity as God's immortal expression. Since this was his own tue being -- and since, because God is permanent Life and Principle, his life and purpose for living were established forever -- he knew he did not have to fear becoming incapacitated. Instead, he needed to correct any lingering material, ungodlike thought and realize that as God's idea he reflected perfection. He was established in eternity.
This fresh understanding brought deep peace.
Within a few days he was told of a position he could apply for in his firm. He was freed from fear at the interview by affirming the facts of his untouchable spiritual identity. He was hired for this new job, and since then he has progressed steadily.
Christ Jesus taught us, "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what se seeth the Father do: for what things soever the doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." n3 The young man had found that he could accomplish all the good he wanted to, to the degree that he acted in accord with the Father's will -- that he understood God and lived His qualities. And this thought expanded to include others. He became profoundly grateful not only for his own mental and physical change but also for the fact that he could share this spiritual truth with his friends in order to help them, too.
